Built to Be Found · Contents

Found is built, not bought

If there is one thing to take from this book, it is that lasting visibility is not something you purchase. It is something you assemble, one honest signal at a time.

You can buy a burst of attention. You cannot buy the kind of being-found that lasts, the kind where Google ranks you and an AI names you because they are genuinely confident about who you are and what you are good at. That is earned, and the earning is the whole point: it is hard to buy, which means it is hard for a competitor to buy past you once you have it.

Look back at what the chapters actually asked of you. Be specific enough to be associated with something. Be a clear, consistent entity. Answer the real questions. Own your local patch. Earn genuine citations instead of buying empty ones. Show up in the AI answer by doing the fundamentals, not chasing a trick. Gather real proof. Publish things that compound. And measure, so you know what is working. None of those is a hack. Every one of them is a signal, and together they stack into something a search engine and an AI can both trust.

So do not try to do all ten at once. Pick the one where you are weakest right now. If your homepage does not say plainly what you do and where, start with clarity. If you have happy customers and no reviews, start with proof. If you have never once checked whether you show up, start with measurement. Get one signal solidly in place, then add the next.

The businesses that are impossible to find in two years are the ones that waited for someone to discover them. The ones that get found are the ones that, starting today, made themselves a little more findable each week.

That is the work. It is not glamorous and it is not instant, but it compounds, and the head start is available right now, while most of your competitors are still hoping. Build it, one signal at a time.
