For VFX Studios

Pipeline tools built by someone who has used them

Custom pipeline tools for VFX and animation studios. Render farm integration, asset validation, scene management, and production automation - written by a technical artist who has worked inside production pipelines, not just adjacent to them.

Why work with me

01

Built from the inside

Tools are designed by someone who has been an artist in a broken pipeline. That changes the design priorities - error messages that are readable, interfaces that match how artists actually work, and failure modes that do not destroy a day's work.

02

Deadline and render farm integration

Render submission tools, queue management scripts, and progress reporting integrated with Deadline and other render farm systems. Reducing the manual overhead of render farm management.

03

Maintainable and documented

Code delivered with documentation and clear structure so your internal team can maintain and extend it. Not a black box that only one person understands.

Real projects. Real clients.

A selection of relevant work from 10+ years of practice.

VFX Production Pipeline

Maya Python Tool Suite

Built a suite of Maya Python tools for a VFX production pipeline: automated scene cleanup, naming convention validator, render layer manager, and Deadline submission tool. Integrated with the studio's existing project management system.

Animation Studio

Asset Validation & Handoff Pipeline

Developed an asset validation pipeline for an animation studio handling multiple outsource vendors. Automated checks for naming conventions, geometry errors, and rig integrity reduced QA time per asset from 2 hours to 15 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have an in-house pipeline team. How would you work with them?

As a contract extension of the team on specific tools or a backlog of lower-priority pipeline work. I can work within your codebase, follow your conventions, and hand off clean documented code. Most engagements start with a defined scope and expand from there.

What render farm systems do you integrate with?

Primarily Deadline (Thinkbox), which is the most common in VFX contexts. I also have experience with Render Manager, custom farm setups, and cloud rendering APIs.

How long does a typical pipeline tool take to build?

A focused single-purpose tool (a scene validator, a submission script) is typically one to two weeks. A larger pipeline system with multiple components and UI is scoped per project after a detailed brief.

Pipeline work stacking up while the team focuses on production?

Describe the tools on the backlog and I will estimate the build time.
