Alien, Human, Robot

a minted series of three archetypes

I

Alien

The outsider. A licence to push material and form somewhere strange and not-quite-of-this-world.

II

Human

The mirror. The hardest of the three, because we know precisely how a human is meant to read.

III

Robot

The made thing. Hard surfaces, engineered light, a character built rather than born.

Each card was rendered in 3D with its own materials, lighting and character design. The series plays with identity and archetype through a science-fiction lens, asking what separates the born, the made and the other.

The real craft was making each one hold up at both extremes: striking as a thumbnail in a feed, still rewarding at full resolution up close.

Designing for the chain

This was made as an NFT collection, not just a set of renders, and that changed how I approached it. An NFT collection lives or dies as a coherent set: the pieces have to feel like they belong together, while each one still earns its place. Three archetypes, one visual language, was the answer to that, tight enough to read as a series, distinct enough that you would actually want a specific one.

So the brief was really two briefs at once. Make three pieces of 3D art I would be proud of, and make a collection that holds together as something people would collect, mint and trade. The science-fiction framing gave it a concept worth owning rather than three pretty pictures sharing a folder.

Made at the height of the NFT moment, and I am clear-eyed about how that world turned out. But the work itself was genuine, and I am still fond of these three.
